Violino Piccolo after Nicola Amati 1649

This model is scaled down from the full size instrument patterned after Nicola Amati circa 1649. It was traditionally tuned a minor 3rd or a 4th higher than standard violin tuning. The most famous work featuring violino piccolo is the first Brandenburg concerto of J.S. Bach.

The Nicola Amati model comes in standard and master quality. The master quality violin has decorative inlay on the back and English style decoration on the belly. The fingerboard and tailpiece are ebony over maple in the deluxe model and maple only in the standard model. Carved scroll and pegboxes and/or dragon heads are available as well as antique varnish.
