This Lu-Mi instrument is a tenor viola patterned after Gasparo da Sálo. Tenor violas are ideal especially for earlier repertoire as such instruments were commonly used in 17th Century. This tenor viola is not particularly large and is thus very playable. The neck is short by modern standards with a string length of 38 cm. This tenor is similar in appearance to the large model viola.
The Gasparo da Sálo model comes in standard and master quality. The master quality tenor viola has decorative inlay on the back and English style decoration on the belly. The fingerboard and tailpiece are ebony over maple in the deluxe model and maple only in the standard model. Carved scroll and pegboxes and/or dragon heads are available as well as antique varnish.
